Remarks on the map.
  • If you can't load the map by the button above try this link
  • This map is composed on basis of Google Earth pictures ( Part of these pictures are out of date. There are also places with inaccurate stitching (sometimes shifts are up to 35-40 meters). Remember about this.
  • It's the seventh version of the map. The map has rivers and lakes, roads, parks, rail roads, airport, Shanghai metro lines and Maglev line. There is a part of Suzhou city also.
  • What is new in 7-th version? 1-st, 2-nd, 7-th, 8-th, 9-th, 10-th, 11-th lines of Shanghai metro were added or extended. Also the areas of EXPO2010, Formula 1, 2-nd Terminal of Pudong Int. Airport, Hongqiao Airport and Hongqiao Station were drawn. The most interesting addition is about 250 architectural places (POI). All these points have "A" letter in front of their names and the number which corresponds with the same number in "Shanghai Architecture" by Anne Ware (Watermark Press).
  • Size of the map is 2,9 Mb.
  • The map appears on GPS-navigator screen from 8 km zoom (depending on GPS-navigator model and its settings). As the map is zoomed in the new objects are drawn.
  • I have tested this map on Garmin GPSmap 60CSx and Garmin GPSmap 62S units. I don't know, if the map works with others GPS units. Try yourself.
  • Before loading you have to install drivers and software for your GPS (Page with drivers for Garmin GPS).
  • Garmin offers its own "MapSource" soft (Page with software for Garmin GPS). But it requires a connection self-made and unofficial maps with MapSource by Windows Registry. If you don't fear to deal with the Windows Registry, welcome to this page. There is another way, as described below.
How to upload map to GPS.

You need two programmes : sendmap20.exe and Img2gps.exe. They work together. Img2gps.exe is a Windows GUI for sendmap20.exe DOS application. The latest free version of the programmes you can load here : After installation the label of img2gps.exe appears in menu "Start".

Warning!!! When you upload new maps in GPS-navigator by the programms the old maps in GPS memory are erased!!!
By the way, MapSource also erases old maps at the time of uploading new ones.

There are three solutions for this problem.
1-st variant
You have a backup of your maps on hard disk and you don't need of old maps in the moment. In that case just upload the map of Shanghai in GPS. Later you can restore the old maps from backup.
2-nd variant
You don't need of the old maps in the moment, but you don't have backup of your maps on hard disk. In that case you have to copy the old maps from GPS-unit to your PC. You can do it with help of native "Map Source" soft (if maps are official) or GPSDaemon.exe free programme (load GPSDaemon.exe). Short manual for the software is here. After you get old maps, upload the map of Shanghai.
3-rd variant
You don't want to delete old maps from you navigator. In that case copy the map of Shanghai and the old maps from your GPS-navigator in a folder on your PC. Then upload them together in GPS. Old maps will be wiped off anyway, but you record them again.
Notes :
- if your GPS supports micro-sd you can use another one for the new maps.
- if you have official maps which work only on the certain media (i.e. micro-sd), don't experiment with it and use another one.

Well, upload process itself.

Start img2gps.exe from "Start" menu.
1. Choose folder with map files to send in your GPS-unit.
2. All maps in the folder appear in the table. Check maps to load.
3. Choose the type of uploading.
4. Examine total size of the maps (it should be less than your navigator memory).
5. Click "Upload to GPS" button and wait until the process complete.

Notes :
- before uploading the maps by img2gps soft in your navigator don't forget to switch the GPS-navigator interface in "Garmin" mode.
- if your navigator has both built-in memory and micro-sd, img2gps writes maps on micro-sd. Therefore change micro-sd with another one to prevent erasing important and bought maps from the micro-sd.
- if you want to write maps on built-in memory without touching micro-sd, mark "Create File instead of Upload" check-box in img2gps programm before you click "Upload to GPS" button. A file with your maps will be created (gmapsupp.img). Connect your navigator to computer and copy the file on built-in memory. Before uploading switch the GPS-navigator interface in "USB" mode (USB)".
